Road works and disruptions

Road works and disruptions occurs on New Plymouth District roads for a variety of reasons.

These include:

  • NPDC operates a continuous programme of road maintenance and upgrades throughout the year.
  • Road works and other activities such as events, parades or car rallies can require temporary road closures.
  • Road works may also be carried out when services such as water, power, and telecommunications require maintenance, or as part of larger infrastructure projects.

While we endeavour to minimise disruption to your travel plans, temporary detours are sometimes necessary and delays may occur.

Check the map below to find out where scheduled and active current road works and road closures are. This map is updated nightly using data from approved requests to use our roads.

The map is as up to date as possible but there may be some discrepancies due to reporting errors or emergency works that are not shown. The level of detail is dependent on the information provided to NPDC by project managers or independent agencies.

Included in the map is state highway information sourced from NZTA Journey Planner.
