Urban catchment management planning is an effective way of co-ordinating efforts to address multiple stormwater issues, i.e. flood management, freshwater management, aquatic habitat management and amenity values within urban stormwater catchments.
Catchment management plans will help NPDC and communities identify integrated solutions to resolve existing issues, and avoid or minimise risk for future issues.
Although the focus of this strategy and the catchment management plans will be on the urban areas, the catchments may have considered effects on upstream and downstream rural areas.
We are currently working on the creation of catchment management plans for the district, funded from NPDC's operational budget. Waitara is the first priority catchment, the plan for which will be available in late 2024.
