Road safety improvements – Devon/South roads

We are improving road safety at three sites in the west of New Plymouth city.

The road safety project on Devon Street West between Lorna Street and Pioneer Road is largely finished. The improvements are bringing greater safety for schoolchildren, drivers, walkers and cyclists, and making it easier for ambulances to exit Lorna Street onto Devon Street West.

Thank you to everyone for your patience during the construction period.

We have installed interim road and cycle lane markings between Belair Avenue and Bayly Road as the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is planning to replace the road surface on SH45 from Stuart Place to Blagdon Road, and north of Bayly Road, after the winter months. Residents and businesses in the area will receive a notification from NZTA Waka Kotahi regarding these works once a date is confirmed.

Once that is completed, we will:

  • Finish the road markings, including laying green paint in the cycle lanes and red pedestrian crossing paint.
  • Install concrete cycle lane separators, as we are doing along other blocks of Devon Street West.
