Wastewater overflow at Waitara's Battiscombe Terrace

News
PUBLISHED: 19 NOV 2024

An investigation is underway into what caused an overflow from our wastewater system into the sea via the Battiscombe Terrace outlet today.

The discharge started at 11am and was contained by 2.37pm.

Our team is on-site cleaning and sanitising the site.

As there is the potential for public health to be affected, warning signs against swimming for 48 hours and collecting kai for 28 days have been erected at affected water bodies.

We’re sorry this has occurred, and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.

Keep up with the latest information on the Can I Swim page website.
