It’s safe to get back in the water at Ōākura Beach, near New Plymouth.
We put up the no swimming signs yesterday (Wednesday 28 December) after a sewage spill from a service access-hole in Shearer Reserve.
Further investigation by NPDC staff and water quality monitoring found the discharge was contained in the park area and did not reach the Wairau Stream.
Te Whatu Ora Taranaki (Health Taranaki) has given the beach the all-clear and the public health warning has been lifted.
Please remember to only flush the three Ps down toilets: pee, poo and paper so the wastewater network, which services about 26,000 properties across the district, can operate smoothly.
We hope everyone has an awesome break over the New Year and stay safe in the sun and the surf.
