Waste minimisation at events

If you are planning a public event in the district it is a mandatory requirement to have a waste minimisation plan in place.

A zero waste event is one where, as an event organiser, you make efforts to minimise waste creation and promote reuse. Any waste that can be recycled or composted is handled accordingly, aiming for as little as possible to go to landfill.

We can assist you with this by providing:

  • advice about reducing and reusing, on-site planning, waste station set up, event waste health and safety;
  • information on the collection and disposal of recycling, glass and compostables (food and compostable packaging) by waste contractors;
  • waste infrastructure including Zero Waste signage, bin wraps and lids; and
  • advice on the sorting of waste streams by Zero Waste volunteers.

Please use the form below to submit your waste minimisation plan and to apply for funding to support implementation of your plan.

Applications must be submitted 15 working days prior to your event, to allow processing and approval of your plan.

If you need more information or support with plan please email us at zerowasteevents@npdc.govt.nz.
