Not only is swimming a great way to exercise, knowing how to swim generates confidence in and around water. We have swimming classes for all ages, from six months old through to adults.
Our programme operates term by term. These terms generally coincide with primary school terms.

A term usually runs for about 10 weeks, but this can sometimes be nine weeks or 11 weeks long. There are no lessons on public holidays.
We cater to all ages and abilities:
All new enrolments (5 years+) require an assessment, this is a free service. Assessments ensure swimmers are enrolled into the correct class for their abilities. Assessments must be booked in advance, please book in by calling us on 06 759 6060 or emailing swim.school@npdc.govt.nz.
Please note: Our swim school does not operate on a roll-over system, so please make sure you re-enrol each term.
We have an intensive swim programme that runs over the school holidays where swimmers come multiple times a week to fast-track and solidify their newfound swimming skills.

These lessons are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8am and 10.30am over the school holiday period.

Waterbabies: 6 – 18 months old | Max 8 | 25 minutes | Adult participation required
Here we are introducing the baby to the aquatic environment and installing water confidence and knowledge in new parents. Through songs and activities we encouraging the baby’s natural curiosity and playfulness in the water.
Toddlers: 18 months – 21/2 years old | Max 8 | 25 minutes | Adult participation required
Where aquatic enjoyment, skills and water safety are developed in both deep and shallow water.
Beginner Preschool: 21/2 – 4 years old | Max 8 | 25 minutes | Adult participation required
An introduction to the aquatic environment for kids with no previous experience where independence and basic water confidence is encouraged.
Preschool: 3 – 4 years old | Max 4 | 25 minutes | No adult participation required
For children who are independent and ready to learn basic water skills such as breathing, submerging, floating and kicking.
Advanced Preschool: 3 – 5 years old | Max 4 | 25 minutes | No adult participation required
For kids with basic water confidence and skills, here we start working on stroke fundamentals; streamlining, back kick and co-ordinating freestyle.
Classes designed to suit school age children with options from beginners to advanced swimmers.
Confidence: Max five | 25 minutes
An introduction to the aquatic environment for kids with no previous experience where independence and basic water confidence is encouraged.
Beginners: Max six | 25 minutes
For kids with basic water confidence and the ability to float, here we start working on stroke fundamentals; streamlining, back kick and co-ordinating freestyle.
Beginners 9 – 16 years: Max six | 25 minutes
For children aged between nine and 16 years who don’t have much water experience or technique on stroke fundamentals. This class comprises skills from both Beginner and Advance Beginner lessons.
Advanced Beginners: Max six | 25 minutes
For kids who can swim basic freestyle. This course introduces them to rhythmic bi-lateral breathing, backstroke and introduces breaststroke kick.
Learners: Max six | 25 minutes
For kids who can swim freestyle with bi-lateral breathing and backstroke. This course introduces breaststroke and butterfly kick.
Advanced Learners: Max seven | 25 minutes
For children who can swim 25 metres freestyle and backstroke. This course starts to fine-tune breaststroke and butterfly.
Development Squad: Max eight | 45 minutes
For children who can swim 100m continuously. Here we start perfecting all four strokes, including turns, pullouts and dive starts. Swimmers must also undergo a 200m distance swim.
Breaststroke/Butterfly Clinic: Max eight | 45 minutes | Holiday programme only
For children with basic breaststroke and butterfly skills who are looking to refine and fast-track these skills.
Note: all classes in our swim programme regularly practice elements of water safety.

Adult Beginner
The aim is to build water confidence and basic swimming and water safety skills for adults new or returning to the aquatic environment.
Adult Intermediate
The aim is to build on basic swimming skills for adults looking to develop breathing skills and techniques, as well as developing other strokes.
Adult Advanced
For adults who have a solid understanding of freestyle breathing and are looking to advance in this skill as well as develop other strokes and turns.
Private lessons
We provide private lessons for adults who would prefer more 1x1 time. Private lessons allow for more flexibility when scheduling lessons.
