The government is planning three major changes to the way councils across Aotearoa look and operate.
The Coalition Government has introduce a new plan for managing water services delivery and infrastructure, including allowing councils to establish local water entities.
The Resource Management Act will be replaced with three new Acts that will manage decisions on what is built and where, on the management of the environment and the response to Climate Change.
The Future for Local Government Review will consider the roles and functions of councils and how they can be improved.
We’re studying the detail of these reforms as they come to hand, while staying focused on delivering great services for our residents.
Ko Tātou-Local Government New Zealand has more information on all the reforms.
