Apply for a building consent online

We’re moving to Objective Build!

Processing times during festive period

Please note that the period from Saturday 20 December 2025 to Saturday 10 January 2026 (inclusive) is non-working days. This may affect the processing time for consent applications. Normal processing resumes Sunday 11 January 2026.

From 10 December 2025, NPDC will use a new online portal called Objective Build for building consents. It will also manage:

  • Project information memoranda (PIMs)
  • Certificates of acceptance
  • Registrations for exempt building work

Already using Objective Build?

If you've submitted applications in other regions, you're all set. Just log in with your usual details. From 10 December, you'll also see your history of completed NPDC consents.

Consents in progress?

If your consent hasn't been issued by 10 December:

  • It will stay in the old portal until approved.
  • Once issued, it will appear in Objective Build for owners and agents. You can still access the old portal here.

Applying for a new consent?

From 10 December:

  • Submit new applications here.
  • Important: Use the same email address you used in the old portal so we can link your previous consents.

If you need to use a different email, contact us:

Ph: 06 759 6060

Getting Started with your Application

Processing Time
Building consent authorities must process your consent within 20 working days from the date your application is accepted. If your application is incomplete or we need extra information, this timeframe will pause until we receive the additional details.

Before You Apply

  • Know what you're applying for and check if other approvals are needed.
  • We recommend using a licensed professional to help with your application.

Apply online for:
