With the one week before nominations close for NPDC’s Clifton Community Board by-election, candidates are proving slow to put their names forward.

Candidates have until 12 noon on Thursday 15 June 2023 to get their nominations in but as of 8 June, just one nomination had been received.

The by-election is needed after board member Waitaoro (Alex) Batley resigned last month.

Clifton Community Board has four members and represents an area including Tikorangi, Urenui and Tongapōrutu.

To be eligible for nomination, a candidate must be enrolled as a Parliamentary elector and a New Zealand citizen.

Nomination papers are available during normal business hours from:

  • New Plymouth District Council’s Civic Centre, 84 Liardet Street, New Plymouth.
  • Waitara Library and Service Centre, 15 Queen Street, Waitara.
  • by phoning 0800 922 822.

Candidate nominations must be in the hands of the electoral officer or an electoral official at the Civic Centre, 84 Liardet Street, New Plymouth no later than 12 noon, Thursday 15 June 2023.

Nominations cannot be submitted at the Waitara Library and Service Centre.

If more than one nomination is received by the close of nominations at noon on Thursday 15 June 2023, a by-election will be held under the single transferable voting (STV) electoral system by postal vote on Friday 11 August 2023. Results will be available that afternoon.
