A faulty sewer pump station at Onaero Campground is being fixed after wastewater overflowed into the Onaero River.

The discharge started at an unknown time but was stopped by 10am.

As there is the potential to affect public health, warning signs against swimming (for 48 hours) and collecting kai (for 28 days) have been put up at affected water bodies.

We’re sorry this has occurred, and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.

We are investing $248m over 10 years to fix the district’s plumbing.
