Mā Ake - Your Way

In April 2024 Council voted on how the delivery of the approved safety improvements on South Road/Devon Street West would be staged.

What is currently progressing:

Other funded works

South Road/Devon Street West

  • 2.8km of painted buffered cycle lanes with physical protection at pinch points (amount to be determined)

  • 1km of shared path from Barrett Road to Belair Avenue

  • 4 crossing upgrades across the State Highway (Countdown, Spotswood Primary, Calvert Road and Belt Road)

  • 11 side road intersection treatments.

What's happening

NPDC has received funding to deliver the ‘other funded works ‘from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA’s) National Transport Fund and the Council.

We have also secured $3.8 million in Transport Choices funding for the ‘early funded works’.  The other funded works includes a contribution from NPDC of $251,600 for the Lorna St signalisation.

Since the approval of the South Road/Devon St West corridor NPDC have now been advised that no further funding would be released, and that neither raised crossings or in-lane bus stops are to be constructed on state highways.

Given this change in direction, NPDC have revised the design accordingly and is looking to stage the delivery of the safety improvements and will continue to seek additional funding to complete the works for the entire corridor.

Construction updates

We will be scheduling construction to minimise disruption as much as is reasonably possible. If you have any questions or concerns regarding upcoming works, please email traffic@npdc.govt.nz.
